Acupuncture Treatment for Tinnitus

Diane Kloecker, an acupuncturist with TriHealth Integrative Health & Medicine talks with Liz Bonis from Local 12 about some natural remedies for tinnitus and stress relief.

Acupuncture: How it Works

Acupuncture is a treatment based on Chinese medicine that involves placing tiny needles at specific points of the body, depending on the problem.

“It decreases inflammation, it improves blood circulation and it prompts tissues to repair themselves,” Diane explains.

How Acupuncture Benefits Patients with Tinnitus

Tinnitus, also known as a ringing or buzzing in the ears, is a common problem that often lasts only a few minutes. However, for those who have persistent tinnitus, it may be difficult to focus or sleep.

Diane says acupuncture can reduce symptoms of tinnitus in some cases. “It’s particularly effective for ones that might be associated with hypertension because of its effect with blood circulation,” she points out. “Also, [it may help] pain conditions such as chronic neck pain or TMJ.”

She also recommends:

  • Pairing acupuncture treatment with other goods habits, like regular exercise and a nutritious diet.
  • Reducing your intake of “rising foods,” or foods that are spicy or too greasy.
